ORTHOPEDIC TELEMEDICINE

telemed-id1022309042.jpg

Dr. Weidner is now offering orthopedic telemedicine appointments, these are sometimes called virtual visits. Telemedicine involves use of â€‹electronic communications such as a computer or phone to have an appointment with the doctor. The types of visits that may be most appropriate for telemedicine visits include post-operative appointments, visits to review MRI or CT results, and visits to check on the progress of treatment with medicines and physical therapy. New patient appointments can also be done with telemedicine visits but may be somewhat more challenging because we cannot do x-rays like we might normally do with an in-person office visit. However, some patients have already had x-rays performed in the ER or at a hospital which we can then review during the visit.

Dr. Weidner is using a platform called Doxy.me to perform his telemedicine appointments. Patients do not need to download any software or create an account which makes it very convenient and easy to use. Simply use a web browser on any computer, tablet, or smartphone that has a camera and microphone. All data is encrypted, your sessions are anonymous, and none of your information is stored. Doxy.me adheres to HIPAA data privacy requirements.

FAQ's About Orthopedic Telemedicine

Q. What is Telemedicine?

A. Telemedicine is the practice of using video conference and telecommunications technology such as your smartphone or tablet for a follow up visit with your doctor.

Q. How does it work?

A. Your Telemedicine appointment is scheduled like normal through our office. Our office staff will give you the link to Dr. Weidner's virtual waiting room on doxy.me website.

Q. What is the cost of a telemedicine appointment?

A. Telemedicine visits cost the same as office visits and are a convenient alternative for some patients. Co-pays specific to your plan are accepted during the eCheck-In process.

Q. Are prescriptions provided during a telemedicine appointment?

A. Narcotics will not be prescribed at Telemedicine visits because state laws require these prescriptions to be hand written by the doctor in-person. However, Dr. Weidner can e-prescribe all other medicines to your pharmacy like a normal office visit.

Q. Can my teenager have a video visit?

A. Patients under the age of 18 must have an adult present during their Telemedicine visit.

Q. What will I need for this visit?

A. To ensure that you connect with your Physician you will need the following:

  • Smartphone, tablet or a desktop computer that has a web browser, camera, and microphone.

  • eCheck-In: have insurance information ready.

  • On day of appointment, make sure your device is fully charged
